Scientists who dismiss the
Bible in favor of Darwinian evolution miss out on some of the most fantastic
research material from God on His history of the human race.
I wonder how many scientists
are even aware of the fact that the Bible testifies that, in the days preceding
the Flood, there were giant humans walking the earth who came as a result of
sexual "couplings" between women and fallen angels, referred to in
the Bible as "the sons of God."
Specifically, in Gen. 6:2,
we're told there were angels who saw that the "daughters of men. . . were
fair; and they took them wives of all which they chose."
Verse 4 then explains,
"There were giants in the earth in those days; and also after that, when
the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men, and they bare children to
them, the same became mighty men which were of old, men of renown."
From this freakish, unnatural
race of people came a level of vile wickedness and rebelliousness against God
so pervasive it rendered Him incapable of utilizing man as He intended, and He
was forced to wipe out the earth's populace (save for Noah's godly seed) and
start afresh.
As Flavius Josephus, the
renowned historian of Roman-era Judaism in the 1st Century, writes,
"For many angels of God accompanied with women, and begat sons that
proved unjust, and despisers of all that was good, on account of the confidence they had in their own
strength; for the tradition is, That these men did what resembled the acts of
those whom the Grecians call giants."
While some Bible scholars
argue that the "sons of God" were men from the godly line of Seth
(Noah's line) who involved themselves with wicked women from Cain's line,
Scripture passages—including those in II Peter 2 and Jude 6-7 that refer
specifically to this time—confirm these "sons of God" were
angelic beings. From Job 38:7, too, we know that "sons of God" is a
reference to angels.
Bible scholar Keith Blades,
author of the 1994 book, "Satan and His Plan of Evil," reasons,
"As 'sons of God' they are clearly being distinguished from the 'daughters
of men,' and, hence, from the race of man itself. The 'giants' that were the
result of this union also indicate that this was not the simple natural union
of men and women, but something clearly extraordinary. In addition to this is
the testimony of later Scriptures that refer to this time and describe the
activities of 'the angels that sinned' and 'that kept not their first estate,
but left their own habitation' and in so doing went after 'strange flesh' in
similar manner to those of Sodom and Gomorrah."
Blades reveals that these
angels, by "intermingling" with women and producing the giants,
"functioned in accordance with a tactic of Satan to strengthen his
defenses against God's activities."
"Satan's policy of
evil as 'the prince of this world,'
was definitely in control and vigorously achieving his aims," writes
Blades, who points out that as men multiplied on the earth there was "an
ever increasing ignoring and forsaking of the LORD." "He produced
what the apostle Peter described in his epistle as 'the world of the ungodly'. . . God responded with
the devastating judgment of the flood in order to 'extinguish the ravaging
fires' of Satan's corruption."
These angels, as my pastor,
Richard Jordan (Shorewood Bible Church, Rolling Meadows, Ill.), explains it,
left their "first estate" in heaven to come down to earth as Satan's
front line foot soldiers and "co-habitate" with men in order to
corrupt the "seed of the woman."
Hence, when the Flood came,
the fallen angels—or at least their offspring—died like men and
their disembodied spirits have been loose on earth ever since!
The demons, or "unclean
spirits," talked about in Luke 8 and Rev. 20, for example, are these same
disembodied spirits from the time of the Flood.
When Psalm 82:6 addresses the
"gods," and then says in verse 7, "But ye shall die like men,
and fall like one of the princes," it's talking specifically about these
angels.
"Their leaders are in
hell in chains of darkness, and while the bodies of these angels are down there
in that deep (Luke 8:31) at the bottom of the universe where the lake of fire's
going to be, their spirits are loose today; disembodied," confirms Jordan.
"Their dead bodies are down there in the water below the firmament (Gen.
1:7), but their spirits will be loose until the Second Coming of Christ when
they're all bound up. A bunch of their cohorts get out of the bottomless pit in
Rev. 9 and then they're all cast into the pit at the coming of Christ."
The very reason these demons
are called "unclean spirits" in the Gospel accounts has to do with
that vile corruption and violence and rebellion they produced in the earth
before the Flood and continue to promote.
"These angels took up a
career of being totally co-opted into the Satanic policy of evil—
and being the front line foot
soldiers to get it done—and that's why they're so totally committed to
carrying it out, especially in the earth," says Jordan. "That's also
why they would be so totally offended by the Body of Christ for we're going to
take their places in the heavens that they foolishly gave up thinking they're
going to win."
Just like in the days of
Christ's earthly ministry, destructive activity by these demons will be
unrestrained and rampant in the upcoming tribulation period which follows the
sudden exit of the Body of Christ
to heaven at the Rapture.
"Noah and the ark is a
picture and type of the tribulation and the 'little flock' of Believers who
persevere just like Noah and his family did when they warned about the Flood,
got into the ark, and then were preserved through the wrath of the Flood into
the new earth," says Jordan. "The same Spirit that raised up Christ
from the dead preached to them and will do the same in the future through the
'little flock.' "
In the time of Christ's first
coming, Satan had his troops literally called in from around the world to
battle in this contest between the Kingdom of God and the Kingdom of the
Adversary.
These demons are real
personalities with supernatural power who operate in the realm of being foot
soldiers in Satan's army, opposing what God's doing in the Body of Christ's
program just as they do all that's in Israel's program.
