To me,
this is an absolutely mind-boggling concept from Paul to fully internalize: ÒLikewise
the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray
for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with
groanings which cannot be uttered.Ó (Romans 8:26)
The
third person of the godhead is called the Spirit because HeÕs the one who takes
the benefits Jesus Christ won for us at Calvary and brings them into our
personal possession.
Jordan
explains, ÒThe Spirit is the one to take us by the hand across the bridge the Son
has made into the presence of the Father and give us access. Paul says, ÔBy
faith, we have access into this grace wherein we stand.Õ The way this access
that Christ has provided for us is realized in our life is through the ministry
of the Holy Spirit as He works. Eph. 3:16 says He strengthens us by His Spirit;
He works in our
spirit.Ó

The
Spirit of God is the one wrote the Word of God and so as we trust His Word itÕs
the means whereby the Spirit personally works in us.
Sometimes
the Holy Spirit is called the Holy Ghost, a term representing the coming
together of the word ÒGodÓ with Òhost.Ó
Jordan
explains, ÒYour spirit is the place where God operates in you; itÕs GodÕs host
in your life. We used that word ÔghostÕ to describe something in the spirit
world thatÕs human. ItÕs talking about the human nature. When you see the Holy Spirit
called the Holy Ghost, if youÕll check the context, youÕll see the emphasis is
on the person
of the Holy Spirit and His functioning and working.Ó

In Romans
8:2, Paul refers to Òthe Spirit of life in Christ Jesus,Ó and that, in a sense,
is the title of the Holy Spirit.
ÒWe donÕt
go around and call Him Ôthe Spirit of life in Christ JesusÕ but thatÕs who He
is,Ó says Jordan. ÒHis function in your life and in your experience is to bring
the life of Jesus Christ and make it yours, and Ôthe Spirit of life in Christ
Jesus,Õ well, thatÕs the operative law by which the Believer functions today; HeÕs
the one through whom the life of the godhead is actualized in you.Ó
The very
reason Christ rose again on the Òthird dayÓ is because that day is used scripturally
in connection with the third person of the godhead, or the Spirit.
Jordan
says, ÒItÕs the day of resurrection life; itÕs the day of imparting divine life—the
life of the godhead. This life is provided for us through Christ and itÕs
personalized by His Holy Spirit working through His Word in our spirit. ItÕs
connected with the life of the godhead becoming ours (individually) because of
the resurrection life of Jesus Christ.Ó
