Inherent in the makeup and the warp and woof of Lucifer was his ability to make music. He was the original composer of music. Pipes and tabrets, or percussion instruments, were literally built inside of him.

He was literally the heavenly choir director created in beauty, wisdom and perfection in order that he use his creative genius to devise ways of leading all of creation in worshipping God.

In the beginning, as God created the universe—laying it out and designing it in all its incredible intricacies—the angels would witness his Òinterior decoratingÓ and, as Job 38:7 reports, ÒThe morning stars (the classification of angels Lucifer was in; the top echelon) sang together, and all the sons of God (or all the angels) shouted for joy.Ó

Jordan explains, ÒTheyÕre watching God create this tent to dwell in, as Isaiah 41 says, and as they see Him put things out in it, itÕs, ÔWOW! I got it! I see it!Õ And Lucifer was the one who was leading them, and literally when the morning stars sang together, you know who wrote the song? You know who provided the music? LuciferÕs job was to lead creation and he did.

ÒWhen it says they sang together, they responded to seeing GodÕs wisdom put on display and Lucifer lead all the heavenly host in the praise of everything God was doing.Ó

From Ezekiel 28, though, we know that Lucifer was Ôlifted up in prideÕ as he watched what God was doing and, as Isaiah 14 says, he decided he ought to be the one getting the glory in it all. So he took the music and twisted it from being about God to being about him.

ÒSatan used his wisdom, not for GodÕs glory, but for his own, and the original attitude of self-worship and of independence from God—worshipping and serving the creature rather than the Creator—began right there and was introduced into the creation by Lucifer, who became Satan,Ó says Jordan. ÒAnd when he fell, folks, he took his music with him.Ó

Of this event, Ezekiel 28:16 explains, ÒBy the multitude of thy merchandise they have filled the midst of thee with violence, and thou hast sinned: therefore I will cast thee as profane out of the mountain of God: and I will destroy thee, O covering cherub, from the midst of the stones of fire.Ó

Jordan says, ÒYou know what he did—he went out and started merchandising his ideas. He ran the worldÕs first advertising campaign. Oh, yeah! There he is. And you know in your life how important music is to that. It was a natural means of conveying and conveyance.

ÒWhat Satan wants is worship of himself and heÕs Ôthe god of this world,Õ folks. ThatÕs why he tells Jesus, ÔIÕll give you all the kingdoms of this world if you fall down and worship me,Õ because thatÕs what he wants. When he fell, he took his musical ability with him into the pit of hell.

ÒThatÕs why I say to you, if Satan canÕt get to you with your bible (version), or on right division, or sound doctrine, heÕll get you with music.

Outlined in Genesis 4-6 is a picture of the original development of culture and society, including music, and its inherent sinfulness—what Paul, in Ephesians 2, calls Ôthe course of this world.Õ

Jordan reasons, ÒWhen God wants to deal with the problems of life and culture, He doesnÕt need 37 volumes written by Will Durant, and whoever else, to give you the course of Western civilization—He just writes it down in one chapter really.

ÒIn Genesis 4 you see the whole development of culture up to the time of Noah. WeÕre told, ÔAnd Cain went out from the presence of the LORD, and dwelt in the land of Nod, on the east of Eden. And Cain knew his wife; and she conceived, and bare Enoch: and he builded a city, and called the name of the city, after the name of his son, Enoch.Õ

ÒCain was supposed to be a vagabond; he was a farmer, and when he was rejected by God, God said, ÔYouÕre never to have another piece of ground to live on.Õ So Cain goes out and what does he do? He gets him a piece of ground and builds him a town so nobody can move him and he names it after his boy.

ÒHeÕs living through his seed; living through himself. He named his boy Enoch. ThatÕs the reason the Book of Jude talks about Enoch as Ôthe seventh from AdamÕ that prophesied, so you donÕt confuse him with (CainÕs) Enoch and you know heÕs the one over in Genesis 5.

ÒThe very first city is one God built, and when man went out in rebellion against God, he tried to duplicate and counterfeit GodÕs city without God, and the doctrine of the city from Genesis 4 all the way to Revelation 21 . . . thatÕs why New Jerusalem and Jerusalem are an issue. ÔThe city of the great king.Õ

ÒThe spirit of a city is rebellion against God. They predict by 2010, just a few years away, over 53% of the worldÕs population will live in metropolitan areas. That doesnÕt portend a good outcome. ÔGathered together in rebellion.Õ

Genesis 4 goes on to report, ÒAnd unto Enoch was born Irad: and Irad begat Mehujael: and Mehujael begat Methusael: and Methusael begat Lamech.
[19
] And Lamech took unto him two wives: the name of the one was Adah, and the name of the other Zillah.
[20
] And Adah bare Jabal: he was the father of such as dwell in tents, and of such as have cattle.
 [21
] And his brother's name was Jubal: he was the father of all such as handle the harp and organ.
[22] And Zillah, she also bare Tubal-cain, an instructer of every artificer in brass and iron: and the sister of Tubal-cain was Naamah.Ó

Jordan says, ÒNotice it says Ôhe was the father of such as dwell in tents, and of such as have cattle.Õ HeÕs going to develop economic and educational systems to carry on. Who is it that develops husbandry and horticulture and agriculture? And Ôsuch as have cattleÕ? Who is it developing that? ItÕs a descendant of Cain.

ÒIt says, ÔAnd his brother's name was Jubal: he was the father of all such as handle the harp and organ.Õ Where does the art of music and entertainment come from? From whose descendants? Cain!

ÔAnd Zillah, she also bare Tubal-cain, an instructer of every artificer in brass and iron.Õ ThereÕs metallurgy; industrialization; manufacturing. And once you go on down and see what they do, they develop weapons and all of that culture.

ÒWhat does the agriculture, and the horticulture, and the Arts, and the industrialization and the mechanization of society, lead to? Verse 23-24 says violence and murder. ThatÕs the fruit of the course of this world. And the result of Genesis 6 is where the whole earth is filled with violence.

ÒWhat I want you to see is that the developer in the earth among men, who is Ôthe father of all such as handle the harp and organ,Õ was a descendant of Cain.

ÒJust so you remember this about Cain, look at I John 3:12. It says, ÔNot as Cain, who was of that wicked one, and slew his brother. And wherefore slew he him? Because his own works were evil, and his brother's righteous.Õ

ÒCain followed Satan. Now what kind of music do you think he was creating? You think he and his descendants were going to create music and musical instruments that praised God or praised themselves?

*****

In giving a description of the wicked in the days of Noah, Job 21 says, ÒThey send forth their little ones like a flock, and their children dance. They take the timbrel and harp, and rejoice at the sound of the organ.Ó

Jordan explains, ÒThe wicked have got music and they love it and itÕs affecting them. They want to feel good. But notice what they donÕt want:

ÒStarting in verse 13, it says, ÔThey spend their days in wealth, and in a moment go down to the grave.
[14
] Therefore they say unto God, Depart from us; for we desire not the knowledge of thy ways.
[15
] What is the Almighty, that we should serve him? and what profit should we have, if we pray unto him?
[16
] Lo, their good is not in their hand: the counsel of the wicked is far from me.Õ

ÒTheyÕre not interested in God. TheyÕre not interested in glorifying God, doing what He wants done. ItÕs, ÔWhy should we serve God? ThereÕs no profit. What profit shall we have?Õ

ÒI mean, tell me this morning, why do you serve God? You know a lot of churches today are growing and the reason is the music. ItÕs not the teaching of sound doctrine. You go in and try to teach them the things that we talk about here and ÔPflump!Õ youÕre out the door!

ÒI talked to a business lady recently and tried to witness to her, and she said, ÔOh, I sing in the choir every Sunday.Õ When I asked her, ÔWhat does your preacher teach?Õ she said,  ÔOh, I donÕt get to hear the preacher very often because as soon as the choirÕs quit singing I have to leave.Õ SheÕs in real estate. She has to go do open houses after lunch. You understand why sheÕs there—to sing in the choir!

ÒThereÕs a whole lot of people who do that. You have the great music, the drama, and then the little sermonette stuck over at the end just because youÕve got to do something religious. The thinking is, ÔWe donÕt see any profit in serving God that way.Õ

ÒListen, the closer you get to death, folks, and IÕve observed this for years, the harder you try to prove youÕre not dying. And thatÕs not just the physical things; youÕll see that in spiritual things.

ÒWhen the wicked say in Job 21, ÔWhat is the Almighty, that we should serve him? and what profit should we have, if we pray unto him?Õ theyÕre saying exactly what the people in Genesis 21 do but the context is with some people who were overthrown in the days of Noah in the Flood.

ÒWhat IÕm trying to get you to see is God created music and from the Creation to the Flood, music didnÕt go up, it went down.

ÒAnd it degenerated from Creation morning until it debauched the world and filled it with violence. They werenÕt praising God; they didnÕt want to know Him and He wound up wiping them out.Ó
