Note: HereÕs the conclusion to my Nov. 14 piece on Babylonian king
Nebuchadnezzar as a picture-type of the Antichrist)
Because
Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego refused to worship the golden image Nebuchadnezzar
set up, Daniel 3:19 says he was Òfull of fury, and the form of his visage was
changed against: therefore he spake, and commanded that they should heat the
furnace one seven times more than it was wont to be heated.Ó
Jordan
explains, ÒNebuchadnezzar lost his cool. See, heÕs been real diplomatic and
reasonable up to this point, but hereÕs a bunch of hard-headed, Bible-thumping
Jews who wonÕt pay any attention to reason, or social norms and standards, or
what the government says. They got their minds made up. ÔA bunch of
narrow-minded bigots; thatÕs all they are—they think theyÕre right and
everybody else is wrong.Õ
ÒHe
got so mad at them he could spit fire, so he did. These guys were taken in
their clothes, tied up and thrown in a furnace that was heated Ôseven times
more than it was wont to be heated.Õ Ó
As
Daniel 3: 21-25 reports, ÒThen these men were bound in their coats, their
hosen, and their hats, and their other garments, and were cast into the midst
of the burning fiery furnace.
[22] Therefore because the
king's commandment was urgent, and the furnace exceeding hot, the flame of the
fire slew those men that took up Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego.
[23]
And these three men, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego, fell down bound into the
midst of the burning fiery furnace.
[24]
Then Nebuchadnezzar the king was astonied, and rose up in haste, and spake, and
said unto his counsellers, Did not we cast three men bound into the midst of
the fire? They answered and said unto the king, True, O king.
[25]
He answered and said, Lo, I see four men loose, walking in the midst of the
fire, and they have no hurt; and the form of the fourth is like the Son of God.Ó
Jordan
explains, ÒNebby was astonished, saying, ÔMan, IÕm not getting this thing!
We threw three guys in there to burn up but I look down and, man, thereÕs FOUR
of them and theyÕre putting on their overcoats and buttoning up! TheyÕre
huddling up like theyÕre cold! WhatÕd you guys do?! And that fourth one, man,
that guy looks like the Lord!Õ
ÒNow,
when it says he saw one Ôlike the Son of God,Õ the new bibles translate that to
Ôone like a son
of God,Õ because the new bibles say Nebuchadnezzar was a pagan and he didnÕt
know anything about the Lord. Well, thatÕs just nuts!
ÒIn
the first 4-5 verses in Jeremiah 40, one of NebuchadnezzarÕs officers in his
army quotes the book of Leviticus to the Jews in Jerusalem after cleaning their
plow. He quotes Leviticus 26 and says, ÔThatÕs why weÕre taking you guys away.Õ
Well, whereÕd that heathen general learn the book of Leviticus?!
ÒListen,
folks, that Bible was being published abroad and the Word of God was all over
the world. You remember when the spies went into Rahab, whatÕd she say? She
said, ÔMan, everybodyÕs heard about what God did when He brought you all out of
Egypt down there!Õ This stuff wasnÕt done in a corner under a bushel without
anybody knowing about it!
ÒThe
fame and the name of God had spread abroad, folks. They knew what was going on.
Come with me over to Proverbs 30:4: ÔWho hath ascended up into heaven, or
descended? who hath gathered the wind in his fists? who hath bound the waters
in a garment? who hath established all the ends of the earth? what is his name,
and what is his son's name, if thou canst tell?
ÒWell,
(SolomonÕs) talking about God Almighty. He said, ÔTell me, the guy who did all
this stuff out here and put the world together—whatÕs his name if youÕre
so smart? And whatÕs his sonÕs name?Õ
ÒLook
at the next verse: ÔEvery word of God is pure: he is a shield unto them that
put their trust in him.Õ WhatÕs His SonÕs name? John 1 says His name is Ôthe Word.Õ
ÒNow,
thatÕs one of those little interesting things where we can go back now and see it in there, but
you see, when the Word goes forth, thereÕs always a connection between the Word
of God and the Lord Jesus Christ because Jesus Christ is the living Word of God and that BookÕs
the written word
of God. And when the Word of God goes out, information about the Lord Jesus Christ
is going out.
ÒDo
you remember what we studied in Genesis 6 about what the angels are called? TheyÕre
called Ôthe sons of God,Õ and Nebby is familiar with the sons of God and
what heÕs saying is, ÔThat fourth guy looks like a supernatural being! In fact,
heÕs such a great one that he looks like the Son of God himself!Õ
ÒMan,
this is something fantastic going on here with these boys in that fire down
there! The angel of the Lord is there! Notice what happens in verse 27: ÔAnd
the princes, governors, and captains, and the king's counsellers, being
gathered together, saw these men, upon whose bodies the fire had no power, nor
was an hair of their head singed, neither were their coats changed, nor the
smell of fire had passed on them.Õ
ÒThey didnÕt even smell like theyÕd been
in the smoke! ThatÕs a close cut—these guys were bound and the fire burns
the ropes they were tied in but doesnÕt even singe their hair!
ÒNow,
thereÕs something you want to notice about these guys walking in the midst of
the fire but the fire not having any power on them. You notice it says upon
whose bodies
it had no power? Go to Isaiah 43:2 for the prophetic significance of this: ÔWhen thou passest through
the waters, I will be with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not
overflow thee: when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned;
neither shall the flame kindle upon thee.Õ
ÒGodÕs
promise for the Jews in the tribulation is, ÔYouÕre not going to get burned and
your clothes arenÕt going to get burned.Õ That furnace is Malachi 4:1, Malachi
3:2-3, Zechariah 13:9 and I Peter 4:12-13. ItÕs that tribulation fire purging
out the nation. The faithful remnant gets thrown in but they donÕt get burned;
they come out on the other end.
ÒIsaiah
33:13-14, my friend, is exactly what Shadrach, Meshach and Abed-nego did! ThatÕs
why you read there in Daniel 3:27 that upon their bodies—a bunch of
consecrated bodies, yielded to the Lord, walking uprightly—not even the
smell of smoke got on them. Prophetically, itÕs the miraculous preservation of
the faithful remnant through the fiery furnace, which will be the tribulation.Ó

Daniel
is one of the most disputed books in the Old Testament as to its authenticity.
Sir Robert Anderson even wrote book years ago called Daniel in the CriticÕs
Den, and
his conclusion was that Daniel fared better in the lionÕs den then he did in
the criticÕs den.
Jordan
says, ÒItÕs interesting that Jesus validates (the book of Daniel) and so does
Paul. Acts 18:24 says, ÔAnd a certain Jew named Apollos, born at Alexandria, an
eloquent man, and mighty in the scriptures, came to Ephesus.Õ
ÒThe
Scriptures are down in North Africa as well as up in Greece. You understand,
folks, the map of that territory. PaulÕs up in this territory and there are Bibles
all over; thereÕs Bibles all up in Galatia and Turkey. He comes down here to
Jerusalem and these guys say, ÔHey, everywhere you go up yonder, PaulÕs been.Õ Ó
