Music is the universal
language and it will be one of the final instruments Satan uses to complete his
work in setting up a unified kingdom for the Òlast days.Ó
As Jordan often reminds,
ÒDonÕt you ever believe music is just a matter of freedom of choice and
lifestyle; itÕs not just something thatÕs harmless. ItÕs an
instrument—itÕs something Satan puts in his arsenal. You need to know
what God says about music and how it ought to be evaluated.Ó

In the book of Daniel, chapters
3-6 give a typical narrative example of the features of the Òlast daysÓ at the
latter end of Òthe times of the Gentiles.Ó Chapter 3 deals with the attempted
institution of a universal religion by Nebuchadnezzar; something the Antichrist
will do during the tribulation.
Daniel 3:15 quotes
Nebuchadnezzar saying, ÒNow if ye
be ready that at what time ye hear the sound of the cornet, flute, harp,
sackbut, psaltery, and dulcimer, and all kinds of musick, ye fall down and
worship the image which I have made; well: but if ye worship not, ye shall be
cast the same hour into the midst of a burning fiery furnace; and who is that
God that shall deliver you out of my hands?Ó
Jordan explains, ÒNebby
institutes this imageÕs dedication by a religious worship service. HeÕs
instituting a state religion and he uses music to do it. You see, heÕs a
picture of that coming willful king (the Antichrist) who will set himself up to
defy God Almighty, creating an image and demanding people worship it . . .
ÒThere are things in this passage
that are highly instructive for today. Verse 2 says, ÔThen Nebuchadnezzar the
king sent to gather together the princes, the governors, and thÕe captains, the
judges, the treasurers, the counsellers, the sheriffs, and all the rulers of
the provinces, to come to the dedication of the image which Nebuchadnezzar the
king had set up.Õ
ÒYou read that and you get
the idea he had everybody; he didnÕt leave anybody out! ItÕs an amalgamation of
state and religion together in one and heÕs proclaiming himself as Ôthe head of
gold.Õ He said, ÔIÕll not just be the head of gold in this image, IÕll be the
whole image! IÕll be the whole she-bang and I donÕt care what God says!Õ
ÒIn other words, itÕs an
enforced religion—ÔIf you donÕt worship, weÕre gonna getcha; weÕre gonna
kill you!Õ These people are determined there should be no lack of unity.
Everybody is going to be together, worship together and agree together about
this thing and there isnÕt going to be any division and lack of unity in the midst
of what theyÕre doing. This would have been a real good time, folks, to be a
new evangelical!
ÒThatÕs why the Apostle Paul
says that if a man is an idolater—that is, if he bows down to icons and
images and all that kind of stuff—even if heÕs called a brother, youÕre
to disassociate yourself from that man. Why? Because that is connected with a
system that will ruin you and the people under your influence. ItÕs Baal
worship.
ÒPeople say, ÔWell, I believe
the right doctrine but IÕm just going to go along and not rock the boat.Õ And theyÕre
the types who will just bow down because the pressureÕs on them to do just
that.
ÒYou know what the pressure
of the religious system is? DonÕt rock the boat. Like Chamberlain said, ÔPeace
at any price.Õ He gave away Europe. You know what it cost? It cost the blood of
thousands upon thousands upon hundreds of thousands of innocent boys on the
battlefield.
ÒWhat you better maintain at
any price isnÕt peace; itÕs truth! But they say, ÔWe donÕt care what your
doctrine is—just bow down.Õ Conformity. Unity. ÔBe one with us. Go along.Õ

When Daniel 3:8 reports, ÒWherefore
at that time certain Chaldeans came near, and accused the Jews,Ó the phrase Òaccused
the JewsÓ connects with Revelation 12:10 where John talks about Satan being Òthe
accuser of the brethren.Ó
Jordan explains, ÒYou see, God
still had a faithful remnant even in Babylon who wouldnÕt bow their knee to
idols. If you go back to Exodus 20:1, youÕll see that God warned them not to do
this kind of thing, and they learned the lesson of their history.Ó
Daniel 3:12-14 continues,
ÒThere are certain Jews whom thou hast set over the affairs of the province of
Babylon, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego; these men, O king, have not regarded
thee: they serve not thy gods, nor worship the golden image which thou hast set
up.
[13] Then Nebuchadnezzar in his
rage and fury commanded to bring Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego. Then they
brought these men before the king.
[14] Nebuchadnezzar spake and said
unto them, Is it true, O Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego, do not ye serve my
gods, nor worship the golden image which I have set up?Ó
Jordan says, ÒThese Chaldeans
come in and they begin to accuse Shadrach, Meshach and Abed-nego on political
grounds for not obeying their religion, saying, ÔThey donÕt regard you, Nebby.
They donÕt serve your gods. They donÕt go to your church. They donÕt follow
your orders.Õ
ÒYou see, thatÕs what happens
when you get church and state stuck together. You ever hear of anybody doing
that? Listen people, in the
last days of Ôthe times of the Gentiles,Õ thereÕs going to be a monolithic,
universal church, and that church is going to use political coercion to produce
members and converts and adherents. ItÕs going on today; it has been for 2,000
years.
ÒThe Council of Trent, in
1545, passed decrees that were binding in every country where the Roman church
held sway and they said, ÔIf you believe in justification through faith plus
nothing, and you donÕt believe in baptismal regeneration at the hands of Roman
Catholic priests, or that the Apocrypha is part of the inspired Word of God,
then youÕre anathema. YouÕre accursed and the government has a right to murder
you if you stand in public and say it.Õ
ÒAnd some of the most
barbaric, butcherous, murderous acts that have ever been committed on the face
of the earth happened as a result of that. The Counter-reformation, the Valley of the Piedmont, the Spanish
Inquisition—all those things went out under the authority and the
sanction of the government to kill heretics and the heretics were simply
Bible-believing Protestants.
ÒDid you know, folks, that
the greatest minority in the world is an independent, Bible-believing
Protestant? ThereÕs all these groups—Hispanics, Blacks, Orientals—but
do you know who the real minority is? The minority that doesnÕt have ANY
rights? ItÕs a bunch of saved, Bible-believing, Bible-preaching people, and if
you donÕt believe that, you just hang around a little while, why donÕt you!
ÒThatÕs whatÕs going to happen
and thatÕs what these Chaldeans do, folks! They take them and accuse them on
political grounds of not obeying religion. Now, you watch that go on and youÕll
see that over and over and over in the world.Ó

In Daniel 3: 16-18, Shadrach,
Meshach, and Abed-nego answer the king with, ÒO Nebuchadnezzar, we are not
careful to answer thee in this matter.
[17] If it be so, our God whom we
serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and he will deliver
us out of thine hand, O king.
[18] But if not, be it known unto
thee, O king, that we will not serve thy gods, nor worship the golden image
which thou hast set up.Ó
Jordan says, ÒBoy, you talk
about putting a dude on the spot, man! Nebby says, ÔLook, guys, letÕs be
reasonable about this thing. You better think this thing over; IÕm fixinÕ to
burn you! All you got to do is go out there and bow down! It ainÕt no big
thing! It wonÕt cost you any money! I mean, so what if you wonÕt believe; you
got me between a rock and hard place, so just cÕmon and be reasonable, will ya?!Õ
ÒBut those three guys said, ÔNebby,
we donÕt have to take conference; weÕre not careful to answer you,Õ meaning, ÔWeÕre
not at all worried about this matter.Õ
ÒThat word ÔcarefulÕ
there—thatÕs that word over in Luke 10:38 when Jesus tells Martha, ÔYouÕre
full of care. YouÕre anxious, uptight and jittery; full of concern.Õ
ÒThatÕs like that verse over
in Philippians 4 where Paul says, ÔBe careful for nothing.Õ In Matthew 10:18,
when Jesus says, ÔDonÕt take any thought for it,Õ itÕs that same kind of idea.
ÒIn other words, ÔWeÕre not
mulling it over and getting all bent out of shape. WeÕre just going to give you
a straight answer about the situation and we wonÕt have any problem with whatÕs
going on here.Õ
ÒNow, you know something,
folks, thatÕs a real rarity in life. TheyÕre not in a sweat and theyÕre not
going to be diplomatic—theyÕre just going to give a straight answer when
they come up to a problem.
ÒLike the old song goes, ÔThey
wouldnÕt bow, they wouldnÕt bend and they wouldnÕt burn.Õ But see, they didnÕt
know that yet that they (wouldnÕt die). They said, ÔThe God whom we serve is
able to deliver us from the fiery furnace, and if not—if He lets us burn
up—hey, weÕre not going to bow anyway! WeÕre just going to trust Him.Õ
ÒThatÕs a great example of a
clear conscience and, you know, Believers need to cultivate that same attitude
in their walk. If youÕve got a clear conscience, and youÕre not trying to
con people—youÕre just trying to serve God and do what He wants you to
do—
a clear, straight answer
will be a habit with you.
ÒLet me show you what I mean.
Go to Matthew 21:25 and then over to Matthew 17:24 and youÕll see examples of two
different kinds of answers.
ÒYou know, folks, if you want
to study psychology, you want to study your Bible. The BibleÕs full of
psychology. In Matthew 21, the Lord Jesus is talking to the religious
leaders—the chief priests and the elders of the people—and he asks
them, ÔThe baptism of John, whence was it? from heaven, or of men?Õ
ÒIt then says Ôthey reasoned
with themselves, saying, If we shall say, From heaven; he will say unto us, Why
did ye not then believe him? But if we shall say, Of men; we fear the people;
for all hold John as a prophet. And they answered Jesus, and said, We cannot
tell.Õ
ÒThatÕs an easy question,
isnÕt it? DonÕt you reckon those guys had an opinion about where the baptism of
John came from? You better believe they did! They knew what they thought!
ÒBut they answered Jesus
and said, ÔI donÕt know.Õ Those rascals! They knew good and well what was going
on. You know what they were? TheyÕre just a bunch of deceitful, evasive,
self-preserving lovers of menÕs praises. ThatÕs what they were.
ÒThose guys, they weÕre just
willfully ignorant. They werenÕt ignorant; they were willfully ignorant! They
sit and reason, ÔIf we say this, itÕs going to cost us that, and if we say
that, itÕs going to cost us this. We better just say, NO COMMENT!Õ
*****
ÒNow, let me show you the
other kind of answer in Matthew 17. I donÕt know what you think about Peter but
he was the kind of guy who didnÕt mess around when he gave an answer. HereÕs a
passage that fascinates me and one you ought to think about sometime:
ÔAnd when they were come to
Capernaum, they that received tribute money came to Peter, and said, Doth not
your master pay tribute?
[25] He saith, Yes. And when he
was come into the house, Jesus prevented him, saying, What thinkest thou,
Simon? of whom do the kings of the earth take custom or tribute? of their own
children, or of strangers?
[26] Peter saith unto him, Of
strangers. Jesus saith unto him, Then are the children free.
[27] Notwithstanding, lest we
should offend them, go thou to the sea, and cast an hook, and take up the fish
that first cometh up; and when thou hast opened his mouth, thou shalt find a
piece of money: that take, and give unto them for me and thee.Õ
ÒWhen it says, ÔJesus
prevented him,Õ Christ read PeterÕs mind and stopped him before he could talk
and said to him, ÔWhat thinkest thou, Simon? Of whom do the kings of the earth
take custom or tribute?Õ
ÒYou see how with Peter,
itÕs just, ÔBoom!Õ thereÕs the answer?! No messing around, no hesitation. HeÕs
quick. Just gives Jesus an answer just like that. No quibbling. No, ÔI wonder
what He means.Õ No, ÔI wonder what He would want me to say.Õ No, ÔIf I say
this, HeÕs going to do that and itÕs going to get me!Õ
ÒThatÕs exactly the way
Shadrach, Meshach and Abed-nego were and, people, thatÕs the way you want to
be! You want to cultivate in your soul the capacity to just say, ÔHey, IÕm
going to stand on what God says, and IÕm going to do the right thing, and IÕm
not going to worry about the praise of men, and cutting corners, and pushing
buttons, and pulling strings. . . IÕm just going to be straight out!Õ
ÒNow, I know what the world
says: ÔYeah, but you gotta always cover your backside!Õ Listen, Shadrach,
Meshach and Abed-nego were not careful; they werenÕt worried. It was, ÔHey,
weÕre not gonna bow! WeÕre not gonna bend and we donÕt think weÕre gonna burn!
CÕmon, check us out, Nebby!Õ You see, they knew who they served.
ÒPeople, when you know what
that Book says, and you live your life day by day on the basis of it . . . Not
on the traditions of men, or what grandma did, or granddaddy did, or mama did,
or Uncle Joe did, but on the basis of what you know God said . . .
ÒAnd you take that Word and
store it up in your soul, and you build your life on the doctrine GodÕs given
you—not on what He gave Israel, or to tribulation saints, but what He
gave to you as a member of the Body of Christ in the dispensation of grace—you
begin to build up a confident walk that has an unhesitating, steady gait to it
that gives glory and honor.
ÒAnd you know what you find
out? You find out what these guys in Daniel found out—GodÕs able to
deliver you.Ó
