A book
IÕm currently reading that is pleasantly peppered with interesting biblical
insights is ÒDaniel the Prophet,Ó written in 1990 by Bible scholar Dr. Noah
Hutchings.
Just look
at this great passage:
It is
evident that Daniel made a great impression on the king of Babylon. He had done
something that even the wisest men in the whole kingdom could not do. The king
confessed that DanielÕs God was greater than all the gods of the Chaldeans.
Daniel
had been very careful to declare first to Nebuchadnezzar that the ability to
recall the dream and the wisdom to interpret it came not from within himself,
but from the God of heaven.
This
Nebuchadnezzar confessed, but still, he fell down and worshipped Daniel. This
appears rather odd to those of us who worship God in spirit and in truth, but
to Nebuchadnezzar it was evidently the normal and accepted thing to do.
Heathen
religions, like the religions of the Babylonians and Chaldeans, used idols as
objects of worship. Such idols are necessary because their gods do not make
their presence known through the spirit as the God who we worship speaks to us
through the Holy Spirit and leads us in the spirit according to His will.
Therefore
the false religions objects of worship such as idols are necessary so that the
worshipper can feel that he is truly worshipping his god. And when
Nebuchadnezzar fell down and worshipped Daniel, it was readily apparent that he
was worshipping the only representation of this great God who had revealed the
secret. In his own way, he was attempting to direct worship to DanielÕs God
through the prophet himself.
However,
we read in I Timothy 2:5: ÒFor there is one God, and one mediator between God
and men, the man Christ Jesus.Ó Nebuchadnezzar still referred to DanielÕs God
as Òyour God,Ó and not Òmy God.Ó
*****
Just like
nobody knows everything in your heart but you and God, nobody knows everything
in the mind of God but the Spirit of God.
And as
Paul plainly states in I Cor. 2:12, ÒNow we have received, not the spirit of
the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that
are freely given to us of God.Ó
As
Believers, weÕve been given the Spirit who knows everything GodÕs doing!
ÒThe Holy
Spirit is God so He knows everything God thinks, and HeÕs taken that information
and revealed it to you,Ó confirms my pastor, Richard Jordan. ÒNow howÕd He do
that? I Cor. 2:13 gives the answer: ÔWhich things also we speak, not in the
words which man's wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing
spiritual things with spiritual.Õ
ÒWhere do
you find the words the Holy Ghost teaches? In the Word of God. So what do you
have in the Word of God? You have the mind of God. It says all the mind of God is made known.
So youÕve got the complete thinking of God Himself with regard to everything
HeÕs doing
in creation, all written in a Book for you. You see how important that is?Ó
Eph.
1:8-9 says God Òhath abounded toward us in all wisdom and prudence; Having made
known unto us the mystery of his will, according to his good pleasure which he
hath purposed in himself.Ó
Jordan
explains, ÒIf you shake up a liter of Dr. Pepper and then unscrew the cap, what
happens? How does it come out? ThatÕs whatÕs meant by Ôabounding.Õ You canÕt
even stop it! WhatÕs in the jug? Wisdom and prudence. You understand God has
fixed you in such a way that itÕs coming out your ears?Ó
Eph. 1:10
goes on to explain, ÒThat in the dispensation of the fulness of times he might
gather together in one all things in Christ, both which are in heaven, and which
are on earth; even in him.Ó
Jordan
says, ÒGodÕs plan when He created everything back there in Gen. 1:1 was to one
day gather everything under the headship of His son, Jesus Christ. And HeÕs
going to do it in two spheres—the earth and the heavens; HeÕs laid all
that out for you.
ÒWhen you
understand that, you understand the secret of His will. Now, if IÕve made
known the secret of my will to you, is there any secret left? Then donÕt you
have full revelation, full knowledge, full understanding?Ó
In I Corinthians 2:10, you see a
connection to this same promise when Paul writes, ÒBut God hath revealed them
unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God.
The key
to having GodÕs wisdom and prudence flow out abundantly is in knowing the
mystery of the FatherÕs will, which only comes from understanding the purpose
He has in both IsraelÕs prophetic program and the mystery program defined by
PaulÕs epistles.
ÒThatÕs
why we (dispensational preachers) go around the country, jump up and down, spit
fire on the pavement, pull our hair out, scream, talk crazy, all to try to get
you to hear this because weÕre trying to talk over the static of the vast
religious system out there thatÕs trying to keep you from knowing that!
In Ephesians
3, Paul writes, ÒIf you have heard of the dispensation of grace,Ó revealing that even in
his day there were many saints who had not heard about the mystery dispensation
because of an organized attempt to hide this information.
ÒIt
shouldnÕt surprise you that 2,000 years later, that what was successful in
PaulÕs day has been successful ever since,Ó says Jordan. ÒBut, boy, when you
get it, doesnÕt it liberate you! DoesnÕt it make it exciting! If youÕre not
excited, itÕs just that it has never gripped you. I guarantee that.Ó
As Paul
so eloquently argues in I Cor. 2: 14-16, ÒBut the natural man receiveth not the
things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he
know them, because they are spiritually discerned. But he that is spiritual
judgeth all things, yet he himself is judged of no man. For who hath known the
mind of the Lord, that he may instruct him? But we have the mind of Christ.Ó
Jordan
says, ÒYou see, what happens to you and me is weÕve been put into a position in
Christ of having the complete total thinking of the Godhead available to us
right there! Do you realize that members of the Body of Christ are the first
people in all the history of the universe that have had that?! ThatÕs because
youÕre the first people whoÕve had a completed Bible.Ó
In Romans
8:15, Paul assures, ÒFor ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to
fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba,
Father.Ó
ÒGod the
Father gives you this spirit of adoption,Ó confirms Jordan. ÒHe gives you the
capacity to stand as an adult in His family and say ÔAbba, Father.Õ We relate
to Him just as Jesus Christ relates to Him. Jesus Christ, by virtue of whom He
is—as glorified humanity, the God-man glorified—He knows and
understands everything; He has all the information and you share His mind! Okay? And the Spirit
of God is the one who gives you that capacity even now to possess that. You have it in a Book and itÕs
the Spirit of God who teaches you that Book, isnÕt it?Ó
