Skyscrapers
are a monument to manÕs spirit of achievement and the spirit of a city is a
monument to manÕs rebellion against God.
After
the Flood, GodÕs plain mandate was Òto scatter and replenish the earth,Ó but the
rebellious counter-charge from the masses was, ÒWeÕre going to build us a city
and stay right here Ôlest we be scattered on the face of the earth.Õ WeÕre
going to build us a religious system and a cathedral out here and weÕre going
to go up on top of that sky-high monument and offer sacrifices and have such
impressive good works that God Almighty will have to accept us.Ó
The
thinking was after NimrodÕs: ÒLetÕs get together on the basis of human
viewpoint, not GodÕs, and letÕs amalgamate everybody and be our own gods, and
do all things our own ways.Ó
As
R. Dawson Barlow writes in his 2004 book, The Origin of the Races, ÒIt was the human
philosophical mindset (which is NOT unlike ÔmodernÕ humanism) that was
responsible for the construction of the tower of Babel. That product of
depraved human reasoning also later developed into a theme of false worship
that continues throughout the Bible, and even to our own present time.
ÒIn
Revelation 17 and 18, the prophetic Scriptures describe the event when God will
deal with another manifestation of this false religious and political system,
called ÔMystery Babylon.Õ This monstrous system is still alive, operating
under many aliases (including some within Christendom) and gaining greater
momentum each year. It will be a dominant power at the time of the Second
Advent of Jesus Christ to the earth. It is that same mighty system he will
destroy at his coming.Ó

Jordan
explains, ÒThe beginning of NimrodÕs kingdom was Babel in the land of Shinar,
and if you remember in Daniel 1, Nebuchadnezzar, king of Babylon, went into
Jerusalem and took them back into the land of Shinar into Ôthe houses of his
gods,Õ which is the same thing.
ÒNimrod
built Nineveh, which was the capital of Assyria, and the city Rehoboth, a word
that means Ôthe city of boulevards.Õ What he builds is a great metropolitan
city of hustling and bustling Fifth Avenues, 42nd Streets, State
streets, Madison Avenues and all the rest.
ÒAnd
it says Resen, the city between Nineveh and Calah, was a great city. The word
Resen means Ôa bitÕ or Ôa bridle.Õ And he would have named it after the ability
to control things. Resen—thatÕs like saying Wall Street or LaSalle Street—and
itÕs the power that goes with the concentration of economic and social activity
in a metro area, and Nimrod controls it all.
ÒIn
Genesis 9-11, youÕre reading the history of the world really in its great
foundational principles and origins and these are chapters that are extremely
important to you and me today.
ÒYouÕre
told the nations start from the sons of Noah—Shem, Ham and Japheth—
and
youÕre given their descendants, and where they go, and what they do, concluded
by the last verse in Genesis 10: ÔThese are the families of the sons of Noah,
after their generations, in their nations: and by these were the nations
divided in the earth after the flood.Õ
ÒThe
first 11 chapters of the book of Genesis are designed not to give you a history
of the first 2,000 years of mankind. If it was that, it certainly wouldnÕt
cover simply just 11 chapters.
ÒAnyone
who reads the book of Genesis knows that the first 11 chapters cover 2,000
years of human history, and then you begin with Abraham in about 2,000 B.C. and
go from chapter 12 to 50 with that mass of information talking about just a
couple of hundred years in the life of Abraham and his descendants—you
know the emphasis is on Abraham, Isaac, Jacob and their descendants and whatÕs
happening with them in GodÕs dealings with them.Ó
*****
In
the first 11 chapters, the issue is in laying down the four divine institutions
designed for the establishment of the human race; for its perpetuation and
orderly maintenance. TheyÕre the foundational principles for the way mankind is
to be operating: Volition, Marriage, Family and Nationalism.
In
the last part of Genesis 9 is a far-reaching prophecy given by Noah about Shem,
Ham and Japheth and the character to be exhibited by each of these three boys
as the progenitors of the races of people who will repopulate the earth.
ÒNoah
focuses on the contribution each of these sons is to make,Ó explains Jordan. ÒJust
as the man and the woman are to be united in matrimony and recreate as it is, marriage
is really the recreation of the original man. So it is that these three boys
are going to have contributions—divinely appointed divisions of
responsibility—to care for the specific needs of mankind at the three
fundamental levels of human existence: the spiritual needs, the physical needs
and the intellectual needs.
ÒAnd
the contributions of the three racial heads—Shem, Ham and Japheth—were
intended to be unified activities; it was a division of labor and contribution
that was to be done in a perfect unity, just like man and woman are to be one
flesh.
ÒThese
contributions were intended to be blended to a simple, organized way of life,
resulting in the highest form of civilization that mankind could achieve—
something
youÕll see perfectly in effect in the millennial kingdom.
ÒBut
you know what happened? Satan immediately instituted his policy of evil against
GodÕs institution of nationalism and brought about divine judgment. And when you see Gen 10:32 say, ÔBy
these were the nations divided in the earth,Õ theyÕre divided in Genesis 11 at
the tower of Babel.
ÒAnd
that division—it isnÕt that God desired that the nation be all split up, and
divided and warring among each other, when He made the distinctions (between
NoahÕs three sons). Rather, God intended these different characteristics be
blended together into a harmoniously functioning unit but, because of sin, it
was all divided and burst up.
ÒAs
soon as any one of these groups becomes unbalanced, one of them seeks to get ahead
of the other and control the other. Sometimes in history it has momentarily happened,
but what happens is it might burst ahead for a little while and then it brings
just absolute collapse, and frequently with frightening suddenness in results.
ÒShemÕs
responsibility is to contribute to the spiritual needs of mankind and if you
take Shem and his descendants, youÕll see that every major world religion has
come from the tents of Shem.
ÒAnd
when Ham and Japheth get to inventing religions, theyÕre always spurious—you
can spot Õem just like that. ShemÕs special contribution was to the needs for
inner strength among mankind and he originates and develops religion.
ÒHam
focuses on the physical needs of mankind and heÕs the technology guy; the
inventor. His descendants focus on the technological necessities of man and the
skills man needs to develop and work and to sustain himself.
ÒJapheth
focuses on the intellectual needs and heÕs the man whose purpose is to give
direction and purpose. HeÕs more of the philosopher-type guy. Shem will
originate, and Ham will invent, and itÕs Japheth who takes what Shem originates,
and thinks about what Ham invents, and expands the two into systems that work
together.
ÒIf
you leave Ham and Shem to themselves, theyÕll never develop systems of thought.
Japheth takes what Shem develops in religion, and itÕs Japheth who presses it
on into theology. Ham will come along and heÕll have inventions and technology,
but itÕs Japheth who will take it and develop it and expand it into a science.
ÒSo,
you see you have these three (racial heads) moving together and working
together. The difficulty is when any one seeks to exalt itself above the others
as being more needful.
ÒYou
notice in Genesis, it doesnÕt give any suggestion that one branch of (NoahÕs)
family had any preeminence over the other because God didnÕt intend it that
way. He didnÕt intend that one branch, one nation, or one of the three stocks,
be over the other. He intended that each one makes it contribution, and that they
all work together, and yet they are distinct and itÕs very clear as to who they
are.
ÒI
realize you read Genesis 10 and say, ÔThis is just a long list of names,Õ and
it is, but thereÕs more than just a cold genealogy laid out there.
ÒWhat
youÕve got there is the distribution of these men who go in three separate
directions upon stepping off of the Ark. Shem goes off east, Japheth goes north
to northwest and Ham goes south and southwest.
ÒAll
the worldÕs great religions come from the East. Ham goes south. The cradle of
the first civilizations manÕs ever known is from right there and there. The
first great world empire is Egypt. And Japheth goes up (into Europe) and his
people donÕt really get going until they get some of these other guysÕ ideas
and mix them together and blend the things.
ÒYou
see, you got one group taking care of the technology, one group taking care of
the spiritual needs, and you the other guy whose focus is to blend all this
stuff together into a workable, usable philosophy for everybody and then the
whole thing works together the way God intended it to be.Ó
We
know that when the Lord Jesus Christ returns as King to sit on the throne in
Jerusalem, all the nations will flood into it, bringing with them all their
contributions.
ÒTheyÕre
not just going to be bringing gold and silver and money and all that stuff up
there,Ó says Jordan. ÒTheyÕre going to come up and bring all that they have to
offer. And HeÕs going to take it and bring it all together under His headship,
and youÕre going to see the most perfect-ordered society that could ever be,
and HeÕs going to get everything out of every nation. That millennial kingdomÕs
going to be something. The nations of this earth are going to run like a
finely-tuned sewing machine.Ó
