My pastor has stated many
times that if he were a scientist, heÕd be a student of the 38th and
39th chapter of the Book of Job. In these chapters, God asks Job a
series of questions.
ÒThere are advanced
scientific revelations in Job that the scientists at NASA havenÕt even thought
about the problem that the verses answer,Ó says Richard Jordan of Shorewood
Bible Church, Rolling Meadows, Ill. (www.graceimpact.org),
in a study I have on tape. ÒAnd this is the oldest book in the Bible. DonÕt
ever worry about the Bible not being scientifically correct. The BibleÕs so far
ahead of science that you canÕt even see science in the rear view mirror for the
dust. I mean, itÕs just waay back
there. . .The book of Job indicates that the key to solving world hunger is
found in snow. You say, ÔWhat you
talking about?!Õ Well, I donÕt know. I got no idea, but if I was a research
scientist wanting to win a Nobel Prize IÕd work on some of that stuff.Ó
In Job 38, we see JobÕs been
kind of smart-talking God, so Òthen the LORD answered Job out of the whirlwind,
and said, Who is this that darkeneth counsel by words without knowledge?Ó
ÒBoy, isnÕt that a good
question!Ó says Jordan. ÒJust Ôblah-blah-blah-blah-blah.Õ Talk, talk, talk with
no knowledge. God says, ÔOkay, youÕve been running off at the mouth long enough.
Stand up, I want to talk to you. Where were you when I laid the foundations of
the earth? Who hath laid the measures thereof or stretched the line upon it?Õ Ó
In chapter 38 alone, God asks
Job 35 questions about creation.
ÒKids call it ÔShow &
TellÕ and this is the biggest quiz show that's ever been put forth on a
non-commercial basis,Ó says Jordan. God says, ÔJob, you're supposed to be the
man.Õ He's saying, ÔI want you to act like I created Adam to act. I want you to
think like I created a man to think. Gird up your loins. Let's get on with it,
Job!Õ Ó
Over and over in the Bible
when you read about men girding up their loins, itÕs a reference to preparing
for battle. In Job 38, God discusses the battle with Satan that man, from the
beginning, was created to be a part of.
Jordan explains, ÒGod says to
Job, ÔShut up, quit talking out of your head all this human viewpoint—all
this snarly-snot of yours and all the stupid stuff your friends have been
telling you—and think like a manÕs supposed to think. Think some sound
doctrine. To help you do it, let me ask you some questions.Õ Ó
