Jordan says, ÒPeople ask me if I think a Believer can be demon-possessed and, of course, the answer is no. But I can tell you a Believer today can be demon or devil-influenced, and they can be demon or devil-captured.

ÒHereÕs the way—II Tim. 2:26: ÔAnd that they may recover themselves out of the snare of the devil, who are taken captive by him at his will.Õ

ÒA snare is a trap used to hold somebody so they canÕt get away. A snare doesnÕt kill you; it just holds you.

ÒThereÕs the old joke from years ago about the two raccoons that got caught in a trap; it snapped and clenched their rights paws. They realized that if they were still in their predicament come morning when the trapper arrived, theyÕd be dead meat.

ÒSo, the female raccoon says, ÔWell, the only option we have is just to gnaw our leg off and live with three legs and not be killed.Õ And the male raccoon agrees, ÔOkay, I can see that.Õ

ÒSo, she gnawed her leg off and went on about her business and came back a half-hour later to find the male still in the trap.

ÒShe says, ÔWell, I thought we agreed weÕd gnaw our leg off and be free?!Õ He answered, ÔWell, IÕve gnawed three of them off and IÕm still in the trap!Õ

ÒSatan canÕt kill you as a Believer, but he sure can snare you. He can cause you to be entrapped by error. Notice he takes you captive by Ôhis will.Õ Satan has a will for Believers.

ÒHis opposing will for the Body of Christ is to neutralize you so you canÕt effectively function as a member of the Body; you canÕt function in the identity GodÕs given you. You get your mind off who you are in Christ, vacillate and move away.

ÒWhen Paul talks about Ôinstructing those that oppose themselves,Õ thatÕs the condition of a Believer under satanic influence. What does it mean when he says Ôoppose yourselfÕ?

ÒIt means you are one way—youÕre a saint of the most high God—but youÕre living another way as if youÕre not. You live in opposition to who you really are. YouÕre saved but youÕre living like youÕre really lost. YouÕre living in the Spirit but walking in the flesh.Ó

The Apostle Paul says the way you demonstrate the sincerity of what youÕre doing as a Believer is not in any emotional release of the moment; itÕs in the day-to-day living of life. He tells Philemon, ÒThe communication of thy faith—I want it to become effectual.Ó

He writes in I Thess. 2:13, ÒWhen ye received the word of God which ye heard of us, ye received it not as the word of men, but as it is in truth, the word of God, which effectually worketh also in you that believe

Jordan says, ÒWorking effectually means it gets inside of you and produces its work in you so that when your feet hit the ground, youÕre off doing what GodÕs Word says you should be doing. How do you that?

ÒHow do you get from where itÕs just stuff you know in your head to stuff that lives in your life? Well, thereÕs one word and that one wordÕs not religion. ItÕs not rules and regulations and performance systems. The word is believe.

ÒThe long and the short of it is, folks, when you read a verse of scripture, that verse says that this action and this attitude ought to be the action and attitude you take as a Believer because youÕre a Believer and this is the way it should live in your life on a daily basis—this is what God would live in you and how HeÕd act in you.

ÒAnd when you donÕt do that, you know why you donÕt do that? Because you donÕt believe the verse. ThatÕs all there is to it. ThereÕs not any other excuse. YouÕve got misplaced dependencies. Your confidence is not in GodÕs Word, itÕs not in who GodÕs made you in Christ; itÕs in you, or someone else, or in what you want and not what God wants.

ÒYou want the verses to work in your life—believe them! ThatÕs all you got to do. The only response grace will accept is faith. And when you believe them, you know what theyÕll do? TheyÕll transform your life into what they say. The reality of what they say will work in your life.Ó
